The Different Types of Denture Adhesives

If you’re one who has trouble keeping your dentures stable and secure in your mouth, a denture adhesive is a beneficial product to consider! With the help of an adhesive, your denture will remain in place and will give you the strong and reliable results you are looking for.

There are two different types of denture adhesives in the world today; those products are:

-Paste adhesive: When applying the paste to the upper denture, simply place three short strips of the adhesive to the appliance—two along the ridge area and one down the center. Then, for the lower denture, place three short strips of the paste on the center of the ridge area. Whatever you do, do not put the paste on the borders of the denture.

-Powder adhesive: The powder adhesive may be a bit easier to use than the paste. All you need to do is sprinkle the powder on the tissue-bearing surface of the denture. Then, shake off the extra powder and place the denture in your mouth. Many like this product because it’s easier to clean and it does not have the tendency to keep the denture away from the tissue.

If you would like to know which adhesive is the best option for you and your smile, please feel free to call 541.497.7970 and talk to our Smiles Dental team. We also encourage you to schedule an appointment with your dentist, Dr. Dr. Michael Hall, if your dentures no longer fit you properly. Instead of using adhesives to keep the ill-fitted denture in place, it’s best to get the appliance adjusted so it won’t harm the tissues of your smile.
