How to Handle Dental Emergencies

Even if you are taking care to practice proper dental hygiene and to attend your six month dental checkups, accidents can happen. In the case of a dental emergency, contact Smiles Dental for an appointment with Dr. Dr. Michael Hall as soon as possible. Dental emergencies can be corrected if the issue is addressed quickly. It is important to know to handle the situation until you come to our office.

If you knock out your tooth…
Rinse the tooth in water, but do not scrub it. Try to put the tooth back in place, but do not force it. If the tooth will not reinsert, place it in a container of milk or a tooth preservation product. You can also place the tooth between your cheek and gums. It is important to keep the tooth moist and to come to our office right away.

If you have a toothache…
Clean out your mouth by rinsing with warm water. Use dental floss to gently remove any food caught between the teeth. Do not put aspirin on your tooth or gums, as this can burn the tissue. If the pain doesn’t go away, call our office.

If an object is stuck in your teeth…
Use floss to gently try to remove it. Never use a sharp or pointed instrument. If you cannot remove it, see our dentist, as it can cause an infection.

We welcome you to contact our office to learn how our dentist can treat a dental emergency in Lebanon, Oregon, and to schedule a visit.
